Since they first made their way on the scene over four decades ago, The Cowboy Junkies have been making music for all of their outlaw fans since the get go, all the way from the north to the south - showing you don’t have to be American to get folky. Formed in Toronto, three of the four members are actually siblings - Margo Timmins on the lead vocals, Peter Timmins on drums, Michael Timmins on lead guitar, and Alan Anton on bass guitar. They recorded their first album in their garage, and the debut album titled Whites Off Earth Now!! cemented their blue rock and psychedelic sounds for the masses. By the time their second album The Trinity Season had released, they began to get widespread recognition - grabbing tours and headlining spots across America, and named by The L.A. Times as one of the 10 best albums of 1988. Now, forty years on and still the best of friends and bandmates, the crew is ready to remind us of why they’ve had long-lasting staying power up until this point.
Speaking on the band and how they’ve been able to stick together like glue and sell out shows like it’s no big deal, Mike Timmins recently gave an interview telling it all. “We’ve never really stopped touring. Our shows are made up of two sets - the first set is a short set that we focus on new things in our catalogue and the songs we are excited about, that being Such Ferocious Beauty on this tour, and whatever else we are excited about. And the second set being the catalogue set and that’s when we go through a lot of songs everyone knows and what people can remember us for,” Mike said. “And as far as new music goes - yeah me and Pete were actually just at the studio yesterday working on some new material. It takes awhile for us to get new things going these days, but there is a new album always being made in the background,”.
WOAH - two sets, a new album?!? We just saw they dropped the new single Angels In The Wilderness, and now this?! This is just too much for us to process… we’re really so excited for it all. The band is now on super hero legend status, and we’re just down to enjoy the ride!
